Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Role:

Inmarsat owns and operates an extensive global IP network to support its fleet of satellites and to carry traffic from a diverse set of customers. The use of deep packet inspection tools for both bandwidth management and network intelligence has become increasingly important and Inmarsat has invested significantly in this area. The core network team have a vacancy for a specialist to help manage the deployment, configuration and maintenance of the DPI infrastructure.

The current DPI infrastructure consists mainly of Sandvine policy traffic switch (PTS) which will be superseded by Sandvine Active Logic over the next 2 years. The DPI Engineer will support the transition to Active Network Intelligence (ANI) and the in-life operation of the system which will be deployed in a private cloud environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the management of Inmarsat’s Network & DPI infrastructure at multiple sites
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert for Inmarsat’s Sandvine Infrastructure
• End-to-end troubleshooting and resolution of faults in the network that are escalated to the Tier 3 team
• Proactive identification of potential issues in the network and subsequent implementation of the corrective action plan
• Lead or support testing activities required to ensure that new policies can be deployed to the production network without unexpected effects
• Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues related to the DPI infrastructure & Core networks
• Track issues through to resolution within agreed time limits
• Liaise with the manufacturer where appropriate to resolve problems
• Support the work of the core network team as directed by the team manage.

Qualifications

Key Knowledge and Skills

• Hands-on experience in a technical role involving IP networks and DPI solutions – at least 3 years.
• The ideal candidate will have served as a developer in prior roles and have a deep understanding of modern, highly scalable architectures leveraging the latest technologies, including private cloud technologies, virtualization, Hypervisors, OpenStack, Rest API etc
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, IT or Software Engineering, or a diploma from a technical institute
• Hands-on experience with the installation, configuration, and/or operation of networking equipment such as Cisco, Juniper or other network hardware manufacturers would be an advantage
• Good Knowledge & hands-on experience in Routing & Switching protocols & technologies like BGP, OSPF, MPLS, LDP, GRE, VXLAN, EVPN etc.
• Knowledge of Load Balancing, Firewalls and Virtualization
• Linux of Linux/Unix OS experience
• Good Understanding of IP networks (at least CCNP level knowledge)
• Ability to investigate and resolve problems in a logical manner
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

• Programming and/or scripting in any language
• Experience with virtualized routing technologies such as Juniper vMX.
• Previous experience with Sandvine technologies and Sandscript would be an asset.
