The base salary banding for this role is £71,577- £79,530 in London and £61,911 – £68,790 outside of London, depending on experience – plus benefits outlined below
Our team
We’re the Data & Machine Learning (D&ML), in the Data Content Services lab. We’re responsible for Hadoop based Systems of Insight within the Group. Whilst currently on-prem, we’re moving to the cloud, making this an excellent time to join our team on this journey.
About the role
We’re the owners of the Enterprise Data Hub – a Hadoop implementation based upon Hive and Spark, currently favouring Scala. The Group has also signed up to a strategic partnership with Google to utilise their Cloud Platform services (GCP) to build a new strategic platform for the Group to prepare our Bank of the Future service for customers. We anticipate very significant opportunity for review of our systems, data processing methods and approaches.
What you’ll be involved in
As a Senior Big Data Engineer you’ll be responsible for leading a scrum team delivering the highest quality data processing and analytical systems.
You will deliver the highest quality data processing and analytical systems, drawing upon your engineering and coding expertise, whilst being open minded to the opportunities the cloud provides.
You’ll understand key business and lab priorities, deliver code, facilitate solution designs and identify potential technical impediments then work to resolve them.
You’ll also get the opportunity to mentor and support more junior members of the team as we grow.

Essential
Prior experience of big data systems (large scale Hadoop, Spark, Beam, Flume, or similar data processing paradigms)
Hands-on approach and knowledge of big data systems, ideally Hadoop/Spark
Proven data transformation and ETL experience
Prior programming skills in any language ideally Scala, Python
Desirable
Banking or Financial services background
Google cloud platform experience or other cloud technologies, ideally Azure or AWS
Innovative – constantly looking for new ways of solving problems and delivering more efficient solutions, especially using automation and DevOps methodologies
Adaptable – ideally with experience working in a large matrix organisation, delivering in both traditional fast path Waterfall and Agile methods
