Purpose of Role Work with the digital team to drive the creation, development, and improvement of some of our range of digital products based on member, supporter, and volunteer needs, as well as organisational goals. Product Managers act as the user champion for key Ramblers digital products, ensuring the best possible experience for those users. The focus will be on digital mapping, walking and mobile products and applications. To work with relevant internal stakeholder teams as well as volunteers and external user representative groups to prioritise the most valuable features and functionality improvements for our products, as well as act as lead for business prioritisation of new features. The Role PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT Lead the development of new and existing digital products for the Ramblers, based on user needs, target audience requirements and organisational priorities. Support and guide stakeholders within the organisation in translating user need into functional requirements for our key development agencies and manage those agency relationships. Recommend priorities for new and existing product development, seeking guidance from the Senior Product Manager, and other key stakeholders. Work closely with other heads of department across the organisation to design, develop and test new products in collaboration with end users where possible. Undertake regular user research to ensure that the Ramblers understands what current and prospective users want. PRODUCT MANAGEMENT Act as subject matter expert for the digital products you support, as well as a sounding board for Ramblers’ members and volunteers on the performance and development of those digital products. Lead on technical support for user issues of our key digital products and use that to strengthen our reputation and ratings on key external platforms such as Google PlayStore and Apple Store. Look for opportunities to grow our membership and audience through our product development approach. Leverage analytics platforms to understand user engagement and behaviour to help shape the product strategy. WAYS OF WORKING Help to champion a user-led, agile approach to product development, developing new ways of working within the team and in collaboration with other teams and departments. Work with the Senior Product Manager and wider Digital Team to look at best practice in digital product development and work on ways to bring that into the Ramblers. Act as a bridge between the Data, Digital & Technology department and other teams and Directorates so that they become closely aligned to the development process and can succeed as product owners. Ensure that new products are consulted on, approved, and supported by the ICT team. Support the Senior Product Manager in identifying, training, and liaising with Digital Champion volunteers across the Ramblers network. Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required of the post holder by the Ramblers. The person Demonstrable analytical and research skills Experience of effectively managing multiple digital products and services and prioritising work successfully. Understanding of good practice in digital product design and development. Experience building mobile applications and/or mobile-first web applications. Up-to-date grasp of digital technologies, user experience design and research techniques, and the effective use of them. Strong communication skills, particularly to communicate technical solutions and their benefits, limits, and risks in accessible language to stakeholders with varying technical understanding. Excellent team-working, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Adept at using a range of digital systems, applications, software, and websites. Knowledge and Experience Experience working with geospatial systems/digital maps and mapping products Experience working with volunteers to further the goals of an organisation Experience of working within an agile environment Experience with web-based and native app solutions Proven experience of managing relationships and contracts with partners and suppliers Skills and Leadership Strong co-ordination, planning and organisational skills. Excellent training and facilitation skills Excellent interpersonal and supporter engagement skills Excellent IT skills and an ability to support others to use software and programmes Good analytical skills and an ability to interpret and analyse data and present recommendations.
