DevOps Engineer

Reporting of the role

This role reports to the Head of DevOps

Overview of job

As a Senior member of the DevOps team, you would be responsible for developing and improving Global’s Build Engineering and Application platforms which underpin numerous business-critical applications.

Using modern tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes and AWS we develop, test, and deploy in an Agile environment, influencing DevOps, Security and Development best practices across the organisation – always striving for robust and innovative solutions to enable the organisation to operate and scale effectively and reliably.

In the first few months, you would have:

• Understood our existing build and deployment architecture
• Influenced improvements towards technical solutions and ways of working
• Participated in our peer code review process
• Contributed to production systems and applications

Responsibilities of the role

• Working with our product development teams to ensure our products are efficiently built and deployed
• Supporting, maintaining, and improving our application hosting and build platforms
• Be an advocate for DevOps best practise across the organisation
• Keep up to date with the latest technologies and how we might apply them to best solve interesting problems that you will be faced with
• Mentoring new and existing team members
• Ensuring good practice is applied to all we do, including reviews, testing and documentation

What you will need

The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:

• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tooling (Terraform) deployment platforms (Kubernetes) and cloud technologies (AWS) would be an advantage
• Understanding of DevOps concepts and how they can be applied
• Proven understanding of CI systems (such as Jenkins)
• Solid understanding of a programming language and comfortable with core concepts (e.g. Java/Python/Golang)
• Understanding of the full Software Development Lifecycle in an Agile environment, including design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
• Familiarity with working in an Agile environment
• Having worked with support and development tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, JIRA and Service Now would be a plus
