Senior Software Developer/ Engineer

What will you be doing:

• Developing solutions both tactical and strategic problems to meet business requirements
• Understanding requirements and help the team to deliver high quality solutions
• Providing estimates for tasks, including design, development, technical debt, and testing
• Producing code that is appropriate for a low-latency java platform
• Participating in code reviews and architectural discussions
• Developing automated testing tools to exercise functionality, performance, and capacity of code
• Proposing solutions to complex problems that are in keeping with the existing system architecture
• Quickly delivering tactical fixes and simple changes where required

  What we’re looking for:

• Experience of Core Java
• Understanding of multi-threading, memory management, caching, networking, distributed systems, algorithms and/or operating systems
• Experience of developing/running Java applications under linux
• Development of microservices and RESTful APIs using Java
• Writing reusable, testable and efficient code
• Implementation of security and data protection
• Evaluation of different architectural and software solutions, understanding trade-offs and designing, delivering appropriate solutions.
• Collaboration with the wider engineering team and technology department in an agile/scrum environment
• Working directly with business users to solve real business problems

  Job Specific Competencies
  Technical Skills/Systems Knowledge (and associated skill level)

• Excellent experience and skills in Java (11+) / Spring / Spring Boot.
• Solid understanding of object-orientated programming techniques and use of design patterns.
• Experience of build tools and CI/CD – e.g. Maven, GITLab.
• Experience writing REST web services.
• Familiarity with both relational and NoSQL databases (we use Oracle, SQLServer and Mongo).
• Exposure to messaging – e.g. Kafka, JMS
• Appreciation and understanding of security.
• Knowledge of developing a microservices environment with auto-scaling, loosely coupled, secure & resilience services.

  Skills that will help you in the role:

• Experience with systems providing trading, risk, middle office, or other finance services
• Experience with network or platform engineering and production support
• Experience with scripting: bash, perl, python
• Knowledge of FIX, OUCH, Millennium or other financial protocols
